Station Island, four miles north of the village of Pettigo in County Donegal is better known as Loch Dearg, a pilgrimage location that dates back over one thousand years. Though Loch Dearg survives today as a living remnant of the early Irish Church, many pilgrims today are more conscious of the spiritual atmosphere of the Island. The tradition of the Loch Dearg pilgrimage entails three days of fasting, walking barefoot, and keeping continuously awake for a period of 24 hours.
